Welcome
Welcome to the community of Fort Simpson. We are the only Village in the NWT and we are proud of our unique small-town status.
Our smaller size (pop. 1250) means that we really do notice travellers. We also want to make your visit a memorable one.
We are an established regional service centre for the Dehcho region and are used to seeing tourists from around the world.
Whether you have come to experience our Dene culture, witness the terrifying rumble of Virginia Falls,
or slip a canoe into the mighty Mackenzie River (the Dene name is Dehcho), our businesses and people are ready to accommodate your needs.
To enjoy the community, I first recommend a slow walk along our Island’s river bank to get in tune with the timelessness of the place the Dene call Liidlii Kue (place where the two rivers meet).
As you walk, you will notice the Dehcho’s deep, fast current, you will feel the cool breeze brush on your face and you will start to recognize that time is slowing. Let it slow.
After that you will never be quite the same. And maybe you might even decide to stay, like me.
In Fort Simpson, you will always be welcome.
